PREVENTION VOLUNTEER

DO YOU WANT TO HELP EDUCATE PEOPLE ON SEXUAL HEALTH AND THE USE OF PREP IN PREVENTING THE TRANSMISSION OF HIV?
WANT TO KEEP SEX FUN AND SAFE?

Being a Vamos Bien con PrEP PREVENTION VOLUNTEER is your chance to make a difference in your community! Do you want to help educate people on sexual health and the use of PrEP in preventing the transmission of HIV? Do you want to be the person that helps educate people on sexual health, getting them the resources, care and support they need in managing their health situation? You can make a difference, and this is an opportunity for you!

What makes a GREAT Prevention Volunteer?

The PREVENTION VOLUNTEER is open to all individuals who have a social network, affiliation or involvement with the program’s service demographic; Latino Men who have sex with Men (LMSM).  This can be through personal, professional, organizational and/or social media outlets.  The PREVENTION VOLUNTEER will have a positive, committed attitude towards communicating the importance of HIV prevention, and be comfortable discussing the use of Preexposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), condom use and sexual health and prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

How do Prevention Volunteers MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

The PREVENTION VOLUNTEER is a key position in a community based approach of increasing HIV prevention awareness, with the specific goal of connecting a targeted at-risk population with PrEP. focusing on LMSM.  This effort is in response to the absence of a comprehensive HIV prevention strategy targeting LMSM, specifically in the West Texas, Southern New Mexico and Ciudad Juarez areas.  The PREVENTION VOLUNTEER will become a sexual health educator, who is culturally informed and able to integrate cultural beliefs into the conversation of HIV prevention and PrEP.

How do we prepare you to SUCCEED?

All PREVENTION VOLUNTEERS will engage in a two-tiered training system.  The first tier is designed to provide volunteers with ample content knowledge pertaining to the four HIV prevention strategies.  The second tier will provide them with the procedural knowledge they need to deliver tailored HIV prevention education to LSMS throughout their communities, emphasizing a social media and social network strategy.

How do we STAY IN TOUCH?

Each PREVENTION VOLUNTEER will maintain ongoing contact with the Project Coordinator, in the form of texting, phone calls and email. The Coordinator’s role is to serve as both coach and manager, helping volunteers to refine their skills and optimize their volunteer time through suggestions and discussions regarding their volunteer experiences.
